World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all the leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

Using the item level will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.

It's not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification which are then enhanced by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. Similar to the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the item upgrade comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
