Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum cleaner best we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds.
