Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and audi car Key Replacement cost boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you're in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good news is that they are very cheap and easy to find particularly in the case of the Bosch model, which is what ours are. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many problems in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi key replacement's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car key cover audi's components.

smart-logo.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi key blade 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find them in wrecking yards.
