Forget spinning tops and board games - today's children want TikTok trinkets and Netflix knickknacks for Christmas.

The Toy Retailers Association say the dozen most popular Christmas toys include viral marshmallows and woke dolls with their own Netflix show.

The most affordable option on this year's list is a £7.99 Squishmallow - a cuddly toy which has over 150,000 followers on TikTok.

In short clips, the squishy toys are shown riding in cars, going out with their ‘friends' and having picnics.

She said: ‘There was a big shift in Covid when kids starting finding their toys online more - people are shopping online so they're discovering them online. This means sales are being driven by social media'.

But even with the shift online, toys like LEGO and Pokemon have remained firm favourites as she said: ‘Physical toys won't go anywhere, most toys are still classic.'

LEGO's new Star Wars Hoth AT-ST, which at £44.99 is designed for families to build together, made the top twelve along with a Pokemon Elite Trainer Box.

Barbie also made the cut with its new Cutie Reveal Doll, which comes in four skin shades.

The toys on the shortlist range from £7.99 to £79.99 so the Toy Retailers Association say there's something for everyone.

But with the cost-of-living crisis starting to bite, cash-strapped parents may struggle as only one in the top twelve is under £10.

A spokesman for CNC-Maschine für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen the Toy Retailers Association, Brian Simpson, said: ‘We're very aware of costs spiralling up, but the average price of the list this year is a lot lower and there's something for everyone here.'
