WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item Level upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item level upgrade used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrader kit but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item upgrade's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
