How to Replace an audi key replacement cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor repair for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor repairer (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of an Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues with your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi key copy, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common part across the audi keys replacement 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
