Their decisions were influenced primarily by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their current life histories, as well as their relationship affordances. These findings have implications for pedagogy for L2 Korean assessment and teaching.

The MQ data was analyzed first to identify the participants' choices in practice. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the selections were compared to their linguistic performance in the DCTs to determine if they were a reflection of pragmatic resistance or not. Interviewees were also required to explain the reasons for choosing a pragmatic behavior in certain situations.

The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were examined using descriptive statistics and Z tests. It was found that the CLKs frequently used phrases like "sorry" and "thank you." They attributed their actions to learner-internal factors such as their identities, personalities, multilingual identities, and ongoing lives. However, the interviewees also expressed concern about the social pressures and penalties they could be subject to if they violated their social norms. They were concerned that their native friends would think they are "foreigners" and believe that they are not intelligent.
