3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-road terrain and provides an easy ride for babies. They are also more convenient to push and maneuver than a four-wheeler, especially those with fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are placed comfortably in the frame, delivering the best geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three wheel pushchair-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is the reason it's a good option for off-road walks (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). They usually have large front wheels, which can cope well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough ground. Some models have a lockable wheel on the front to provide extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have lower center of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts, which could mean they are more likely to fall over. Weight

If you're looking for a vehicle that can handle difficult terrain, then you'll need one with large wheels. These are made to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks with ease and still provide smooth riding. They are also great for jogging since they're equipped with suspension and are easy to get up and down kerbs. However, the trade off is that they are quite heavy to push.

The most suitable 3 wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels with a lockable swivel front wheel making it extremely maneuverable. It has air tyres which require pumping occasionally and can hold a child until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the design of the seat and she found it easy to steer even with her 3-year-old on board.

Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, that comes with an adjustable handlebar as well as a hood that is of high-quality with 50+ UV protection. It's also simple to get up and down kerbs, and it can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram with an infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Fabric sling seats sit snugly inside the buggie's frame instead of on top of it like modular seats. This style has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is easier to push, and lighter to kerb-pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you'll need to do that as a new parent!).

Seating

This should allow your child plenty of headroom and space.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It has the advantage that it is located within the frame, instead of on top as a modular seat. This results in a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this style of seat handled obstacles.

This type of buggy has an extensive basket and other useful features like an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal and a few innovative lights for visibility which can be put in front of the occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

Storage

The 3 wheel stroller with infant car seat-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and sturdy to push one-handed, and it's also great for handling difficult terrain. However, it also means that the basket won't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

A good quality ATP will come with a great suspension, pneumatic tyres as well as a padded handle for your convenience. It is also equipped with the form of a car seat and carrycot which means you can use it from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frames didn't fit through their home doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before purchasing.

Choose a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best choice for your future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is one of the best of these that can be used as a single seat from day dot and later converts into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to provide your child with an easier ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. These are found on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to navigate kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres are sometimes tricky to keep inflated and will need to be filled regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, and you should always carry a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres can be used on pushchairs since they are less expensive than tyres filled with air, but they are equally durable. You can tell PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide on flat and tidy surfaces.

You can usually discern the difference between PU and air-filled tires by running your hands over each one. If it feels hard, then it's made of rubber, if it slides then it's a PU. You can also check whether your buggy is equipped with PU tyres, by sliding them across flat, clean surfaces. They should roll easily and fit snugly into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are typically used in high-performance buggies as well as joggers because they can cope with the rough terrain associated with this kind of pushchair. This could make your buggy less stable since the foam will lose its springy nature. Additionally, these types of tyres can typically be noisy because they create lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way through town.
