Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

For instance, the DCT cannot account for the cultural and individual differences in communication. Furthermore it is also the case that the DCT is prone to bias and could lead to overgeneralizations. As a result, it should be analyzed carefully prior to using it for research or assessment purposes.

Despite its limitations, the DCT can be a useful tool for investigating the relationship between prosody and information structure in non-native speakers. Its ability to manipulate social variables that affect politeness in two or more steps can be a plus. This ability can aid researchers understand the role of prosody in communication across cultural contexts, a major challenge in cross-cultural pragmatics.

In the field of linguistics the DCT has emerged as one of the most important instruments for analyzing learners' behavior in communication. It can be used to investigate various issues, including politeness, turn-taking, and the choices made in lexical use. It can be used to evaluate the phonological complexity of the learners' speech.

Recent research used the DCT as an instrument to test the refusal skills of EFL students. The results showed that CLKs frequently chose to resist native Korean pragmatic norms, and their decisions were influenced by four primary factors such as their identities, their multilingual identities, their ongoing lives, and their relational benefits. These findings have pedagogical consequences for L2 Korean assessment.

The MQ data were analysed to determine the participants' rational choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the selections were compared to their linguistic performance in DCTs to determine if they reflected pragmatic resistance or not. The key question in pragmatic research is: why do some learners choose not to accept native-speaker norms? For example, they described how their relationships with professors led to a more relaxed performance with respect to the intercultural and linguistic standards of their university.

However, the interviewees also expressed concerns about the social pressures and penalties that they could be subjected to if they strayed from their local social norms. They were concerned that their native friends would think they are "foreigners" and believe that they are incompetent. These findings suggest that native speakers pragmatic norms aren't the norm for Korean learners. They could still be useful for official Korean proficiency testing. Future researchers should consider reassessing the validity of these tests in different cultural contexts and in specific situations. This will help them better understand the impact of different cultural environments on the classroom behavior and interactions of students in L2.
